Enrolled Agent (EA)

An Enrolled Agent (EA) is a tax expert authorized to represent taxpayers in matters involving the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Enrolled agents represent individual taxpayers, business, entities, estates, and non-profit organizations. Enrolled Agents often provide tax planning in addition to filling tax returns.

To obtain a license, an Enrolled Agent must either pass the Special Enrollment Examination (SEE) or have sufficient experience as an IRS employee. Since Enrolled Agents have a federal license, they can represent taxpayers in all 50 states.

Enrolled Agent status is the highest credential awarded by the Internal Revenue Service. Enrolled Agents must complete at least 72 hours of continuing education every three years.
